BRSD Students Excel in RAP, Green Certificate, and Dual Credit Programs

Battle River School Division (BRSD) is thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its students in the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), Green Certificate, Work Experience and Dual Credit programs during 2024. These programs provide students with incredible opportunities to gain hands-on experience, earn industry certifications, and explore future career pathways—all while students attend high school.

RAP Successes
This year, 33 BRSD students are completing 1,000 hours of practical apprenticeship experience in a variety of trades, including:

  • Agriculture Equipment Technician
  • Auto Body Technician
  • Heavy Equipment Technician
  • Electrician

The most popular RAP program among BRSD students continues to be Heavy Equipment Technician.

Green Certificate Achievements
Three students from BRSD’s 2023-24 Green Certificate program received their Alberta Agriculture Technician Green Certificate this year, with two of the students specializing in Equine and one in Cow-Calf. While earning high school credits, these students demonstrated their expertise in farming, animal care, and crop production, and they are now well-positioned for future careers in this vital industry. This year, 14 BRSD students are enrolled in the Green Certificate program.

Work Experience
Work Experience provides experiential learning activities as an integral part of each student’s school program. Currently, 172 students are enrolled in this program.

Dual Credit Milestones
BRSD is proud to highlight the success of its Dual Credit students. One student, who completed their Alberta Agriculture Equine Technician Green Certificate, has now registered for the Dual Credit Veterinary Technician Assistant Certificate program at Olds College, continuing their pursuit of a career in animal care.

In addition, four BRSD students completed the Veterinary Technician Assistant (VTA) Certificate at Olds College through BRSD’s Dual Credit program. Students received both high school and post-secondary credits, preparing them for the next step in their educational journeys. This year, three BRSD students are enrolled in the VTA certification program.

New Partnership with Lakeland College
BRSD is excited to announce a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Lakeland College to further expand dual credit opportunities for its students. This partnership will provide students with access to a broad range of post-secondary courses, enabling them to simultaneously earn high school and college credits. The MOU represents BRSD’s ongoing commitment to providing students with valuable learning experiences that align with their future career and educational goals.

Ongoing Opportunities
During summer, 2024, over 80 BRSD students were enrolled in off-campus courses, taking advantage of a wide range of learning enhancement opportunities. Additionally, 14 students are currently participating in the Green Certificate program, continuing to build their skills in agriculture and related fields.

BRSD remains committed to offering diverse, career-focused learning experiences that prepare students for success in both post-secondary education and the workforce. BRSD is proud of its students and their remarkable achievements, reflecting diligence and hard work. BRSD looks forward to seeing even more students benefit from these programs in the future.
