Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy
Alberta's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act is intended to ensure that all public bodies, including school divisions, have policies and procedures in place to safeguard people's personal information, but ensure the organization's information is publicly accessible.
Within Battle River School Division a FOIP Coordinator has been delegated to provide leadership, direction and operational support by interpreting and effecting compliance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act. The FOIP Coordinator is responsible for:
- Providing recommendations, support and interpretation of the FOIP Act to BRSD as it applies to matters involving BRSD.
- Coordinating BRSD’s FOIP compliance activities.
- Overseeing the formal FOIP request and appeal process within BRSD.
- Defending and/or justifying BRSD’s recommendations in reviews or investigations conducted by the Office of Alberta’s Information and Privacy Commissioner.
