Superintendent's Message to Parents - June 2023
Posted on:Hello everyone. Congratulations – we have made it to June!
The season of looking ahead
In this last month of the school year, many people are looking ahead with excitement to summer holidays and what’s to come in the next school year.
In schools, it’s a time of preparation – wrapping up and reviewing the year’s learning, taking final exams, and participating in farewell ceremonies.
We’re also busy registering existing students for the year ahead, as well as getting new Pre-K and Kindergarten students all set up. Plus, this year there is a whole new system being announced for busing, that will benefit hundreds of BRSD families. Families should receive information by Friday, June 9 and bus registration opens on Monday, June 12.
This is also the season when changes to school staffing are finalized - you may have noticed several employment postings in recent weeks. We are excited to welcome new members to the BRSD team!
Bidding a fond farewell
Each year at this time we must also say goodbye to those who have reached the end of their career with the school division. This year, after 34 years of service to Battle River, one of the people we are saying goodbye to is me.
And that means it is time for me to say goodbye to you. It has been a true honour to have spent my career with this division, serving as a teacher, school, and division leader. I have had the privilege of working with many dedicated and caring staff members and meeting many parents who are committed to advocating for and supporting their children. But, of course, the best part has been the opportunity to encourage so many students in their learning journey.
You’re in good hands
I will miss the school division, but I am very confident that there is a bright future ahead for Battle River. I know you will be in good hands with the new Superintendent of Schools, Rhae-Ann Holoien, who will be starting her role in early August.
Have a great last month of the school year!
