BRSD Students Receive 2024 Honourable Mention for Outstanding Indigenous Inspiration

On April 15, 2024, 12 First Nation, Métis and Inuit students were recognized for outstanding achievements at Alberta School Boards Association’s (ASBA) 2024 Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Student Award ceremony, held at the Queen Elizabeth II Building.

Additional awards were distributed throughout the province. Sheraina and Lucas are two of Alberta’s 230 outstanding Indigenous students who are being acknowledged with honourable mention certificates for their contributions to school and community culture and education through sharing stories to inspire others. Battle River School Division (BRSD) is proud of the students and their accomplishments.

A letter of congratulations and support was written to the students by ASBA President, Marilyn Dennis.

“This certificate is a testament to your hard work, dedication and the impact you have made within your school and community,” states Dennis. “As you continue your journey, may you always be a beacon of inspiration and a role model to your peers, teachers and community.”

Sheraina and Lucas were acknowledged at their respective schools in Tofield and Bashaw as part of BRSD’s May Long Service and Farewell celebrations. Members of BRSD Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership presented the awards and are excited to extend congratulations.

BRSD wishes to congratulate Sheraina and Lucas for their accomplishments and recognition for this prestigious ASBA award. BRSD takes pride in the Indigenous culture created within the division and traditions shared amongst students.
