Battle River School Division (BRSD) Board of Trustees has officially approved the Annual Education Results Report (AERR) for the 2023-24 school year. This comprehensive report showcases the division’s achievements, challenges, and progress, while aligning with the organization’s three new strategic priorities: Learning Success for All, Enhance High Quality Learning and Working Environments, and Well-Being.
Stephen Hoyland, Assistant Superintendent - Education Services, is proud of the collective accomplishments of BRSD students and its stakeholders.
“This year’s AERR reflects student and staff engagement and commitment, as well as far-reaching community support from across the division,” said Hoyland. “Ongoing collaboration within this extensive support system has made it possible to achieve the many accomplishments highlighted throughout the report. We are continually reviewing and considering ways that will promote student well-being and help every individual thrive in enhanced learning environments.”
This year’s AERR highlights four key areas of accomplishment:
Improved Student Achievement
Evidence of literacy and numeracy improvements across multiple grade levels reflect the impact of dedicated resources and targeted interventions.
- 86.8 per cent of teachers, parents and students are satisfied with their overall quality of basic education
- three-year high school completion rate increased by nearly eight percentage points (75.6 to 83.5 per cent)
Enhanced Learning and Working Environments
Technology and infrastructure upgrades have enriched the student learning experience, creating modern and supportive learning spaces.
- implementation of sound field systems in all K-6 classrooms reduced vocal strain, enhancing student engagement and teacher well-being
Well-Being
Initiatives to support mental health and well-being have expanded, contributing to positive school climates and enhancing overall resilience within BRSD schools.
- 86.8 per cent of parents, students, and teachers feel students are safe, are learning to care for others, respect others, and are treated fairly
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
Increased efforts to involve parents, community members, and other stakeholders have strengthened partnerships, bringing valuable perspectives and resources to BRSD schools.
- significant increase of parent participation in the Alberta Education Assurance Measures survey, with 343 parents responding this year—a 53 per cent increase from previous participation rates
