BRSD Kindergarten Professional Learning Day
Battle River School Division (BRSD) kindergarten teachers from across the division collaborated at BRSD Division Office on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
This professional learning day provided an opportunity for the early learning team to review the newly mandated Alberta Education screening assessments for kindergarten.
In the morning, teachers worked on enhancing their understanding of the new provincial literacy and numeracy assessments which will launch in January. This learning entails preparation for administering assessments as well as inputting data and then using the results to guide instruction and interventions.
Throughout the day, teachers also collaborated on curriculum planning and explored new resources for Math, Science, and English Language Arts (ELA). Kindergarten staff are also learning about current and new intervention resources. When new resources are available, it is integral to begin discussion early for successful implementation of new tools.
BRSD is thankful for staff dedication to professional learning. Attention to each step of early learning—especially in literacy and numeracy—is foundational in setting students up for success and limitless future student aspirations.
