Media Release: BRSD Reflects on First Semester Success, Welcoming Second Semester

Posted on:

As the first semester and the first half of the 2024-25 school year comes to a close, Battle River School Division (BRSD) would like to congratulate all students and staff on their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments. The first half of the year has been a time of growth, learning, and achievement across BRSD.

Superintendent Rhae-Ann Holoien is proud of students and staff for the incredible, collaborative effort displayed across division schools.

“To students who are completing final projects and exams, we wish you the very best of luck! Your commitment to learning and striving for success is truly inspiring,” says Holoien. “As semester two and the next half of the school year begins, we encourage all students to set new goals, embrace opportunities, and continue building on the strong foundation you have established.”

BRSD considers observances as teaching opportunities, aligning with its priority: Learning Success for All. Family Literacy Day, acknowledged on January 27, encourages families to practice literacy together. BRSD also invites this as a moment to reflect on the upcoming World Read Aloud Day on February 5. Follow along with stories read aloud by the Superintendent at BRSD’s Storybook Read Alouds page.

BRSD priorities: Enhance High Quality Learning and Working Environments, and Well-Being, are also supported by its involvement with celebrating special days. Incorporating this learning at school fosters spaces of engagement and inclusion during the learning process. BRSD looks forward to many February celebrations and events, including:

  • Black History Month, a time to honour and learn about the contributions and achievements of Black Canadians and communities, and significant events in Black history in Canada.
  • Valentine’s Day, a chance to spread kindness and appreciation throughout schools and communities.
  • Family Day, a designated day on February 17 to cherish and spend time with loved ones while reflecting on the importance of family connections.
  • Pink Shirt Day, an opportunity for moments throughout the day on February 26, where students and staff join together, standing against bullying and promoting inclusion.

These celebrations and events not only align with BRSD’s priorities and vision: Every Student, Every Day, a Success, but also highlight its central values: inclusion, respect and community. BRSD is excited to share in many more special moments with students, staff, and families, achieving great things together in this last and upcoming semester. Thank you to families, staff, and community partners for ongoing support and encouragement.
