Battle River School Division (BRSD) is preparing for the upcoming school year and anticipating positive experiences for its students. As elementary students await their transitions to new schools, BRSD is excited to offer a warm welcome to each student who is transitioning to a new environment.
École Charlie Killam School (ÉCKS) has been hosting Camrose Grade 5 students who will arrive for their Grade 6 year in September, through weekly Cougars Connect sessions.
This initiative has been developed to ensure a smooth transition from Grade 5 to 6 for the upcoming 2024/25 school year. This event has been coordinated in collaboration with our Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) and Family School Liaison Worker (FSLW) teams.
During the event, students are offered a school tour and encouraged to engage in a variety of activities, while having the opportunity to ask questions. The purpose of this event is to provide Grade 5 students with a positive introduction to ÉCKS and ease possible anxieties around transitioning to middle school.
ÉCKS is hoping that its future students enjoy this firsthand experience of what life in middle school is like. ÉCKS sends a shout-out to Grade 8 students who took the initiative to organize and oversee a game of Gaga Ball for incoming Grade 6 students.
Cougars Connect sessions are being held leading up to the ÉCKS Open House which will be hosted from four to six p.m. on Thursday, May 23. BRSD is excited to welcome students to ÉCKS at the Open House and then again when the new school year begins!
