Media Release: BRSD Highlights Exceptional Student Opportunities
Posted on:BRSD Highlights Exceptional Student Opportunities
Battle River School Division (BRSD) is proud to highlight extensive student opportunities in inclusive learning environments where they can thrive academically and socially, with additional options to participate in extracurricular activities. BRSD continues to support quality student spaces and knowledge by maintaining and building a combination of innovative educational strategies and community partnerships.
One remarkable success during this past year has been the growth of dual credit programs, where students earn both high school and college credits simultaneously. These programs are possible because of partnerships between BRSD and post-secondary institutions. Currently, BRSD students are enrolled in programs such as Veterinary Tech Assistant, Accounting, Sports Management and Marketing Principles.
During the 2023-24 academic year, the number of students in the dual credit program has expanded with the support of an Alberta Government grant, which covers tuition and resources. For the 2024-25 school year, BRSD has expanded its dual credit opportunities with Lakeland College. This initiative allows each student to gain valuable hands-on experience while working toward their desired future career.
BRSD has also seen exceptional growth in equity initiatives such as authentic Indigenous learning opportunities. Students have participated in and gained appreciation of tipi raisings, knowledge keeper teachings, and Indigenous cultural ceremonies. BRSD students continuously learn about the history of Treaty 6 territory and Indigenous Peoples who have called this land home for generations. Integrating culture into our school learning fosters strong, inclusive community connections across all division schools.
In addition to academic and cultural enrichment, students are excelling in career and technology programs and athletics. Over the past year, 70.4 per cent of students indicated they are satisfied with their opportunities to receive a broad program of studies, which includes fine arts, career and technology education, and physical education.
BRSD continues to prioritize high-quality learning and working environments, aiming to provide the best support and service for each student to reach their full potential. BRSD is committed to fostering relationships within the community for the continual development of dual credit programs, Indigenous learning opportunities, academic and athletic programs, and inclusive learning spaces.
